Red Shipment Update
Jim Jannard has posted some new info about Red’s status. The highlights:
- Jim will keep talking to suppliers over the next week to nail down the schedule.
- A new schedule, broken down by serial number, should be posted next Friday.
- Some beta cameras will soon be placed in production environments (major motion pictures) for intensive field testing.
- “We plan to move as quickly as possible to production cameras. We are not looking at next year. We are not looking at the end of this year to begin production.”
So, it doesn’t look like the delays will be all that bad, and I assume other aspects of the camera are progressing even though shipment is on hold for the moment due to supplier issues. Plus, as I’ve mentioned before, just because the first cameras will come later, doesn’t necessarily imply later cameras will be pushed back; Red could simply ramp up production faster.
Anyway, this isn’t great news, but it’s not terrible. And a minor delay doesn’t interfere with our plans so much, though I realize others might find it more inconvenient.
BTW, we should have a new podcast up next week, with a new format and all three members of the Indie4K team.
